The Wookiez hail from Vancouver, BC. They consists of beatbox artists CiMaX and Vino. Both initially met through a small group of beatboxers that is now called the WCG (West Coast Groove). CiMaX and Vino are frequent competitors at the annual Canadian Beatbox Championships placing 2nd in 2018 & 2019. After a long hiatus of the Championships due to COVID, The Wookiez have snagged the title of Canadian Beatbox Champion in 2023, making them the first beatbox Champions from Vancouver.

With roots in rhythmic traditions around the globe this groove heavy ensemble delivers music that transcends the bounds of tradition, blurring the lines between jazz and folk as they carve out new territory for the marimba at the forefront of the sonic landscape. 

Over the past decade and a half, Juno nominated percussionist Robin Layne has steeped himself in rhythmic traditions around the world from Cuba to West Africa to Mexico and beyond. He brings these influences to bear in his compositions that are inspired by his travels. Robin has worked with many of Canada's finest global artists and toured throughout China, Europe, Mexico, USA and Canada. Highlights include Nanjing Jazz Festival, Hildesheim Jazz Festival, Victoria Jazz Fest, Arts Wells Festival, Vancouver Island MusicFest, Salmon Arm Roots and Blues, Vancouver Folk Festival, Vancouver International Jazz Festival.

 

Allowing vulnerability and authenticity to be at the forefront of everything she does, Vancouver-based Tess Anderson captivates audiences with her candid performances. Trying on many different genre hats over the years, nothing quite felt right - until now. After spending the last year in the studio refining her sound, 2023 marks the start of a brand new era for Tess Anderson. 

Combining the familiar gloss of pop with the heavy grit of alternative-rock, she is finally stepping into her power fronting an impressively dynamic 5-piece band. With an album's worth of new music on the way, she performed over 75 live shows last year, including opening for Mother Mother at The Commodore Ballroom. Having received notable press coverage worldwide and radio play nationally on CBC for her 2021 EP "Onward", Tess continues to build a name for herself in the Vancouver music scene.

Argel Monte de Ramos also known as Argel MDR is a Filipino-Canadian singer/songwriter from Surrey, Canada. He was one of the Top 10 finalists of CBC's Toyota Searchlight 2021 and the Music Category winner of Surrey Board of Trade's 2022 Surrey Art and Business Awards. When he was 15 years old, he moved to Canada from the Philippines with his family to seek a better life and opportunities. With Sam Smith, One Republic, and Original Pinoy Music (OPM) as his music influences, Argel wants to use the power of storytelling to inspire Filipino youth and other immigrants through his music and theatrical performances. 

Jamie Thomson is a guitarist and song writer of Haida Scottish descent, born and raised in Vancouver BC. He is a former member of the family funk band, Intellifunk; the group had several nominations for the Aboriginal Music Awards in Toronto and Winnepeg. His most recent album "Who We Walk With, Who We Stand With", reflects the turmoil of our times.

Matt Hermano is an accomplished artist based in British Columbia, born in Vancouver and raised in Surrey. With a musical journey that commenced at the age of 14, he mastered the guitar, honed his vocal skills starting at 17, and began crafting songs at the age of 16. A dedicated performer, Matt frequents open mic events in the Vancouver area and ensures to showcase his talents at local open mics when traveling across Canada.

His performances typically feature original compositions and skillfully interpreted covers, reflecting his diverse musical influences rooted in 70s Motown and 2000s music. This influence is palpable in his soulful approach to singing and his ability to infuse pop lyrics with a captivating depth of emotion.

Miss Shauna

With her background as not only a singer, but a dancer and comedic actor, Miss Shauna is an overall captivating and engaging performer spreading the message of love. She tends to focus on the message that each of her songs bring, covers and originals alike, making sure that the intention behind every song is to teach, uplift, inspire or even just give solace to unexpressed emotions.

Raw, authentic, and relatable, emotive singer-songwriter Wilona, is an artist who has a dynamic atmospheric soundscape. Her distinctly unique sound cut across musical genres and borders with Introspective lyrics and ethereal melodies. Science World

Science World is a charitable non-profit and science centre based in Vancouver, BC that engages learners across the province in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art & design, and math).

Visitors to our iconic geodesic dome explore interactive, hands-on exhibits and galleries that nurture their process of discovery and inspire connection with their natural, physical, and built environments.

Participants in our outreach programs—students, teachers, and families in every region of BC—access the experience of Science World through virtual visits from scientists, livestream science shows, and weekly afterschool STEAM mentorship. At Science World, we inspire the next generation of problem solvers, world changers, and nerds.

We are the only registered non-profit in BC dedicated to the rescue of exotic animals. We also educate the public about the animal world in general, conservation issues around exotic animals, and why exotic animals are usually not a good pet choice.

Harmeet Kaur Virdee

Harmeet Kaur Virdee (she/they) is a double bassist, composer and music educator based in Surrey BC. She is the founder of the monthly performance series, Surrey Jazz Nights and a music teacher at the VSO School of Music, and Queen’s Academy of the Arts. Harmeet is a graduate of the VSO Performance Prep Program where she studied with established jazz musicians such as Jodi Proznick, Miles Black, and Noah Franche-Nolan.

Joining Harmeet is tenor saxophonist Ru Ha (they/them). Together they will explore the sounds of nature, and emotions though their original music and jazz standards. 

The Surrey City Orchestra is made up of professional musicians, who perform all over BC, and teach in the lower mainland.  The orchestra has performed concerts ranging from classical, to anime, to jazz, at venues such as the Bell Centre, the Chandos Pattison Auditorium and the Surrey Arts Centre.  

This past season the orchestra performed for over 500 school children, combining music, with video/animation and Indigenous storytelling relating to our Solar System.  The Surrey City Orchestra continues to play at community events such at the SFU Presidents Gala, and the Surrey Tree Lighting Festival.

Jocelyn Pettit & Adam Dobres

From the West Coast of British Columbia, Jocelyn Pettit is a vibrant fiddle player, stepdancer and singer of Scottish, Irish, French, and Malaysian heritage. With uplifting energy and engaging stage presence, Jocelyn integrates the Celtic and folk traditions of her roots into her performances and compositions. Over the past 15 years, Jocelyn has performed across Canada, the U.S., the U.K., Europe, and Malaysia. She has appeared on CBC and BBC television and radio, and received multiple award nominations, including “Solo Artist of the Year” at the 2023 Canadian Folk Music Awards for her album, “Wind Rose”.

Shawn Bullshields was born and raised in Southern Alberta, a member of the Blackfoot Nation. In 2010, he began pursuing music professionally in Vancouver.  Since 2015 Shawn has been performing full time on Granville Island; he is a singer/guitarist and has a natural charisma and professional delivery that combines a repertoire of songs from the genres of pop, blues, country and folk: The point where they intersect is through his masterful singing voice.  He commands instant attention because his voicconveys the truth, beauty and deep meaning within each song, expressed with the full weight of his personal life experiences.
